You could say I'm an imposter or I'm from the dark side, I own a Karmann Ghia. My interests in this forum is because I'm in the process of swapping the current 1600c for a 2.0 type 4. This site unlike others has a friendly atmosphere and suits my needs very well.
Welcome along. Owning a bay is optional on here, however pictures of said Karmann is a must! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This was my first attempt at car restoration, Triumph GT6 , took 30 years, moved house twice, changed jobs, did a degree at night school for 5 years
This vehicle is at best a burden to you brother. I believe you should simply pass it on for very little cash to....well.....I might have space if you are at your wits end...
Burn him!! Kidding. Ghia's are cool. Yours looks sweet. Why a type 4? I have one in my bus so i know they're an improvement over the lawn mower engine but if you're going to the trouble did you consider a subaru?
Hi Rob, I swore I'd never do another restoration, but when I retired I saw the KG and fell for it. I like the reliability of the Type 4, low down torque, the all aluminium case, its generally much more robust. I'm kicking the door at 63, I don't want a HUGE project, Subaru is a beast and I would probably kill myself in it. I choose VW because I (stupidly) thought it would be simple and easy to work on, how wrong I was. I'm converting the type 4 into upright fan cooling and fabricating the tins myself. I've two engines, one GE and GD both now stripped. One will be a spare to practice on and fab the tins, the other will be a little better than stock.
Welcome, what a stunning car, 2L engines rock, good luck, have had my moonraker over 80 in one, it was a bit downhill mind.
