Hi, after lurking here for a while and trying to learn as much as I can about these old busses, one month ago I bought a 75 Westy. I have driven it for 350 miles, done some minor fixes to it along the way and I am hooked. Really loving having a vehicle that you have to drive and I enjoy doing the maintenance. I have questions for a few issues that shall be put in appropriate thread.

Thanks for having me along for the ride and I look forward to getting out and about this summer in Rosie.

    Cheers, Andy

  6. Welcome, that's a nice looking bus. Loads of help support and advice from folk on here when you need it. If you haven't had one of these old buses before then its worth taking it steady and leaning the foibles of your vehicle. No substitute for doing a bit of DIY maintenance and learning how everything works. Also get yourself a decent manual (or two). Haynes do a decent one and also there is one by Bentley which is an official USA one. Also worth working out what model yours is - Late rear-hinge Westfalia by the look of it, and also what engine it has. Don't take for granted what is on the log book as these old buses have been through many hands! Most of all have fun with it!

I already have the Haynes, keep vw alive and a couple of resto books and they are serving me well. The Westfalia is a rear hinge but I don't know about its vintage and as for the engine, well its a 1600 single port with a 009 running points and solex 30/31. Both the dizzy and carb are brand new (1000 miles or so) but I have no idea why they would have gone for this set up.
