Ok, So Santa and I have an arrangement to try and get Ernie to the point where he can go in the garage and I can still work on him over the winter months (without freezing my bits off). Plus it currently looks ridiculous. I've not even started sorting the brakes yet, and I don't see why I should bother if they need changing (its a 71 crossover bay) if I do the dropped spindles route. So my plan is - 60mm droplinks from Schofields for the front. For the rear I'm looking at doing a notch or 2 on the rear spline to give me 2 1/2 inches... which is pretty simples. The front is what is getting me though. These are the questions I need to answer - How do I know that my discs and Calipers are still the originals for the van and haven't been changed for later ones? Is it easier for me to go down the route of adjusters on the front if the brakes are originals (and therefore cheaper) I take it the rear spline route for the rear is the simplest route? Most cost effective and least potential for me to cock up seems to be - Schofields dropped links Rear torsion bar spline turn JK calliper adjuster - Brake Caliper Conversion Kit VW T2 1970-1972 - or would I be better getting the later brakes and discs? The above would be circa £400 plus bleeding knuckles. Can someone thats done this tell me what to do! Ta Chris
or get some knackered og steels and roll it in and out without tyres on them. or i guess you could get some cheapo solid jockey wheels and drill them to 5x112 just for rolling it about: 4 quid each on ebay.
