The reason they switched to using polypropylene fuel tanks in cars was the fact that up to the point that the tank is punctured by an impact they are safer as they tend to deform and pop back into shape.
A steel tank deforms and the welds come unstitched and it empties.

Silly thing is if you pull the firewall and look to the left of the petrol tank there is a space where a small diesel tank might fit..

good idea Mike, getting a filler pipe to it may put up a problem

  6. I'm thinking of biting the bullet and getting one of these. Thinking of mounting on chassis rail as seen on the pics you posted.

Any recommendations on buyers to use to get one. EBay seems the cheapest and they all look the same other than a few different colours and some coming with led displays etc......

  7. I’ve just ordered a 5kw for the garage. Ebay number 332867943103
Says it’s from Liverpool so quick delivery and no import duty risk.
Will add more when it arrives.

I ordered mine from Manchester but I suspect it was China. I went for the more simple twist knob. 119 quid. I'm doing a fitting thread over on "show us your bit on the side" I would say a 2kw is more than enough for a bus.

According to instructions they have to be level with exhaust out the bottom.

  14. @bluerustybucket with yours inline with the original heating pipework, do you get any heat through from the heat exchangers? If not do you think it would be possible to wire the heater fan on its own to act as a boost fan for the original heating. I will be getting one of these, but I'm just trying to think of the best way of installing it.

  16. Thanks, I'm just thinking.... and anyway they look a bit too safe to me as they are so I think a bit of messing may be in order:D As we say in Engineering, if its working OK it probably doesn't have enough functions:p

If buying from eBay, check out the sellers reviews . I have bought from there because they say UK stock but turned out a 3 week plus wait as actually in China. So I read buyers reviews of the seller and this generally clarifies a few things

Thanks mate. I'm putting exhaust out the bottom anyway. Is that something that you can adjust yourself though?

If I was fitting one in my bus I think I'd fit it under the bed. Dead simple. Exhaust through the floor and heat direct in to van.
