Gonna fit it under the glovebox as it looks like a Kamei underdash tray will get in the way of it if i mount it under the ashtray. Thats the spot for the VW tissue box anyway.
Painted underside of the wings with gloss black. Only had enough paint for 2 1/2 wings though. Not enough room to get to passengers side of car to fit back wing. Quick tidy up and sorting of stuff to create a bit more space. Wing fitted with a just couple of bolts. Some of the holes need opening out a little for some reason. It fitted fine before paint.
Cheers. Getting there slowly. The bolts are stainless but will get copper slipped too. Is cooper grease what they use when you make barrels?
Managed to warm up the speaker pods enough to bend them back into the correct shape. Checked the 4" speakers i have and they're too deep to fit and still allow the pods t lie flat.
Fitted the drain hose for the air box. Routed any water out through the bottom of the framehead instead of it just pouring over the top of it. Getting an error message saying there was a problem uploading your file.
Bit more paint chucked on the underside of the wings. Garage scene. Kick panels trial fitted with the Kamei centre console. Gonna run the speaker wires through some conduit, though i think the bulkhead carpet covers them anyway.
Managed to get the leak around the brake light switch sorted with a length of PTFE tape. Made a start trying to figure out where the hoses and pipes go. Mucho googling looks to be in order.
Finally found the thermostat i've been looking for for weeks. Thought it'd been used on my bay. Atleast that saves me quite a few quid. (note: NOT a stunt hand) Need to make up a couple of brackets to fit these as the ones that came with them are for pre 67 blade bumpers.
Not done much to the bug recently. Stuck some closed cell foam to the rear bulkhead and luggage floor and some behind the rear 1/4 panels. Spent this afternoon replacing the bushes on the gear linkage on my caravelle trying to get rid of the 3" of slackness at the gearknob. Atleast its an easier job than on a bay as it doesn't run in a conduit and can be done with the gearbox in. Rear bush had 2mm of wear. Front one was falling apart. Gearbox lever ball thingy was loose in the socket too. Bit crispy. Nice clean flanges. Just need to adjust the splines between the front and back sections of linkage as neutral is between 2/3 and 4/5. The forks should ba either side of the blocks. Spare wheel clamshell needs a little welding as its rotted out from having mud stuck inside it.
New linkage bushes have made a helluva difference to the shifting though i'm still missing 5th so a replacement gearbox is in order. Can't afford a £1000+ rebuild on mine so looking for a good second hand one. Not easy to find a petrol 5 speed box though as most for sale seem to be diesel or 4 speed.
Bolted the tank into place. Still needs the filler pipe fitting. Screwed the level sender in and connected it to the guage.
