Ok, so yesterday I received my new seat covers in the post and I think they look great. Perfect match for the other stuff in my van. The problem is, my current seats have springs that pop through the covers and into your backside. I don't want to rip the seats apart until I am ready to rebuild them so I am just trying to prepare... I have seen replacement spring sets on eBay but they come in different sizes between 16" and 32". Which are the right size for bay seats? I was also thinking about replacing the horsehair (?) With new foam. Should I just buy memory foam from the market and cut to size or is there more to the expensive ones I see on the parts web sites. Is there anything else I should be getting before I start? In other news, I got matching door cards too. They don't have holes for winders and part of me is tempted by the idea of electric windows. I read up about using bmw E30 3 series motors but are any others compatible? Anyone got ideas for door pulls/armrests with built in window switches? Sent from my SM-N9500 using Tapatalk
I suppose you have been looking at the Samba thread? I imported my BMW motors from the US about 7 years ago but I believe similar motors were also fitted the Ford Granada, some Maserati models and probably many other cars of the same era (1980s). There are a few BMW motors for sale on eBay at the moment from $110 to $150 (all from the US), make sure they are from ’84 to ’88 suitable for the flexible wire drive, post ‘88 are scissor type. I have Westy armrests and use separate pods for the window switches. The problem you will have trying to find armrests with switches is that they will be for sculptured door panels.
