Do you remember Etch a Sketch? If you spent many happy hours drawing pictures on the screen then magically removing them using the plastic slider, you’ll relish the opportunity to relive your childhood on Etch a Sketch Day. The Etch a Sketch toys are still readily available, so it’s a chance to invest in one and get sketching. If you prefer, taking time to do any sort of drawing or painting will be a good way of marking Etch a Sketch Day.

This day is all about creativity, so undertaking anything which involves a pencil, pen or brush is appropriate. Why not have an Etch a Sketch competition with friends or colleagues, or give everyone a thirty-second limit to produce a work of art? With so many choices for having fun whilst also creating something original and wonderful, it’s no wonder that Etch a Sketch Day is so widely celebrated.

Etch a sketch was fab. Trying to make anything slightly curved a complete challenge!

I’m going to look at my dads in case there is one left over from our childhood. Maybe my sister still has it.

    Do I remember it??!
    YEAH!!!
Big Bro accidentally put his knee through mine, after many years of happy "twiddling" .... End of an era :(
@Merlin Cat circles were my speciality :) First discovery of the zen of ambidextrous .... ness.
Probably part of the standard training to be a helicopter pilot!
I'd show you some examples but .................

  5. It's how i first got into abstract drawing

  6. Bit too hi-tech for me. I still use those plastic sheet things where you write with a stylus, then peel the sheet up to erase it...

  7. I loved my Etch a Sketch. I used to ''communicate" with the horses across the road with it. They'd have to nod or shake an answer. I was the Doctor Doolittle of the Etch a Sketch world. ;)

The impossibility of drawing circles put me off. Was more of a Spirograph fan really :D

I am beginning to worry about you!

  11. Did anyone else have a 'Dial a Design'? I loved mine - loads of hours spent making pictures with the click on shapes, and then even more hours colouring them in. I think it was a 'mindfulness' activity before the term was even invented.

  12. Don't mock - those horses understood everything I drew! :)

And while you were doing that, I was giving spiders a ride on my train set!

  18. It's called Computer Aided Design these days. Much the same, but you have to wear trendy horn-rim glasses while you're doing it.

Letraset, I've probably still got some in the useful things cupboard in the shed.
I'm with you, Spirograph every time.
