My Dremel arrived today , which hopefully I can use to adjust my steering box. It has a variety of bits but how do I know which one to use to smooth off some jaggy aluminium(?) ?
If you’ve got the speed clic cutting discs that’ll probably do the job Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I got the 3000 jobby with 25 jobbys cheapest was Amazon , which I got, for 67, but Screwfix have it for 70 I think it was
I'd have a go - carefully - with one of the metal burr bits. The pointy pink grinding bits tend to clog up quickly on aluminium.
You can buy a box of diamond tipped burrs for under a tenner that fit Dremel with a Draper brand on the box. Go gently. I used the grey cylinder type stones for grinding the bushing out, after ripping out the brass insert. And the diamond burrs to make channels in the cracks in engine cases to fit JB Weld... I would really recommend that you use a machine shop or a friend with a Bridgeport or equivalent if you feel the slightest bit apprehensive about the chance of messing it up terminally, given RHD boxes are unobtanium. Its why I never wrote a howto. It turns out in the face of disaster like setting fire to the bus or wrecking the steering box I just get on with problem solving in a calm pre-shock state. Then spend a night wide awake worrying about it.
This site should help anyone struggling to pick the right tool for them https://www.hingmy.com/site/article.php?Which-Dremel-Tool-should-I-buy As James has said, the speedclic mandrel along with the speedclic cutting discs and grinding discs will get through just about all metals. My Dremel has served me well for the last 17yrs and I bought it 2nd hand back then.
I use my Dremel to trim my pubes I’ve found the slowest setting best with the no 7 grinder, finish off with a number 3 or 4 disk, have fun
Have you got the dremel springy dentist attachment and pillar drill and vice attachments ? I found them ver useful , clic ok but bit expensive really fa tools . Handy fa signing your work after . I don’t use mine as much as I would have hoped but it’s cheaper than the dentists .
Used one of the stone looking type things, did the trick, not enough space to get in with a disc. Far from a perfect finish but a big improvement and no jaggy bits now. @mikedjames after my recent experience of machine shops it appears things are safer in my own useless hands!!!
It came with the big dentist thing, what's it for, just an extension so to speak, or for a particular purpose? The instructions are pretty crap for a ficko like me, Google is more useful. No idea what half the flippin accessories are for.
