Mine does already , has done so since I last ‘taxed’ it last year , I just assumed that from today it was mot exempt automatically but I now think it won’t be until I re- tax it in September..
What? The ever so ambiguous .gov site Barn? Yes, I think that’s how I see it - on the link that Matty kindly keeps pointing us to states : Now the rules have changed, vehicles won’t need an MOT from the 40th anniversary of when they were registered or manufactured And then further down states : You won’t have to apply to stop getting an MOT for your vehicle. And then.. However, each time you tax your historic vehicle(even if you don’t pay a fee), you’ll have to declare it meets the rules for not needing an MOT. God knows..
I am genuinely really struggling to see how people can’t understand it Take from the link I posted vehicles won’t need to have an MOT if they’re over 40 years old and have not been substantially changed You won’t have to apply to stop getting an MOT for your vehicle. However, each time you tax your historic vehicle (even if you don’t pay a fee), you’ll have to declare it meets the rules for not needing an MOT.
[QUOTE=" https://www.gov.uk/government/news/mot-changes-20-may-2018[/QUOTE] That site lets you check the date of registration from number plate. I have an M Reg van (1974 I think) and once had a letter from VW (now lost) saying it was built in May 1973 and yet the report is: VOLKSWAGEN MOTOR CARAVAN Check another vehicle ColourWhite Fuel typePetrol Date registered 1 July 1971 MOT expired on 14 May 2018 Don't get that registration date at all...
Have you read my post ? The gov site is not clear in certain circumstances and it definitely doesn’t read like dackys post ,just saying no need to shout .
When I did mine today, I used the gov site to tax the van, I entered the registration number and 11 digit code from the V5C, the record showed the van was HISTORIC VEHICLE taxation class and came up with a choice to either declare MOT exempt or NOT if modified. Its simple, you declare MOT exempt or not when you tax the vehicle. If the vehicle is already taxed, do nothing until the tax comes up for renewal, then make the MOT exempt declaration.
Where in that link does it ‘clearly’ answer my query - i can read it two ways - the way I hope is correct that my vehicle that is already registered as historic will be Mot exempt from today - I need do nothing Or... only exempt when I next tax it and declare that the vehicle is roadworthy
So Is your vehicle over 40 and not substantially modified? Yes Your mot exempt ( you do not need to apply) Next time you tax it tick the mot exempt box
Do you think it meets the mot substantially modified. I would say yes it is substantial modified it’s watercooled, different cc and different manufacturer also your steering rack conversion But it up to you to MOT or not
