We currently have a crappy 009 dizzy installed on our engine. I’d like to replace with an SVDA one fitted with a Petronix. What are the units like that come with it pre installed? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I would change mine to a svda aswell even though my 009 runs just fine and has never given me any problems..... wait for the nay sayers to chirp up
I changed mine to a Pertronix svda dizzy as the old one was worn out. Easy to fit and starts straightaway. The Pertronix is quite expensive and there are cheaper dizzys out there.
I fitted a SVDA last year after having big problems with a 009 on bus from previous owner.I got a sparkright with electronic module, be careful to connect the 2 wires to the coil the correct way or you will blow the module.
I still struggle to understand why so many people have 009 dizzys fitted and even worse fitted by VW specialists. SVDA dizzys are the only dizzy a type 1 engine should ever use. Pertronix1 are good. The pertronix 3 I recently brought is not good. The cheap Accuspark dizzys on eBay are actually good too. I personally would just buy 2 accuspark dizzys and coil sets on ebay so you have one spare incase of a breakdown at all times.
We've had the Accuspark svda with electronic ignition fitted as supplied..worked fine for two years so far..2lr type4
The advance curve on the basic new SVDA seems a bit more enthusiastic, all will be well if you time it 28-30 degrees hoses off and blocked at 3000 rpm (fast) and do not worry about perfectly hitting 7.5 degrees at 850 rpm. I prefer my Bosch with Accuspark made out of bits of about three variously knackered ones (total cost about £70) to a no-name SVDA that I got from Megabug for £50 , which would have been an Accuspark for £80 to £100 if it had an electronic module in it. The only real issue was that when I went to put points in the no-name SVDA (one of those red to red, black to black , goodbye Pertronix days) and a new cap on it, none of the Bosch or Beru branded spares fitted.
Yeah I get the feeling my best bet may be an original Bosch dizzy plus Petronix on-top of that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's what I've gone for - had the Bosch vac advance dizzy fitted already, and bought a Pertronix Ignitor 1 to go in it. Am yet to get the bus back from the welders to see how it goes, but it'll be soon. I hope.
I'm holding my breath and crossing my fingers! Don't want to hassle the guy too much - I said right from when I left it with him that this Saturday was the deadline, so that I had a week of evenings after work to get the door cards back in, mats, camping stuff etc. And also to work out if there's any solar panel stuff that I still need (it's not been ideal trying to work it out without the van here to use as reference for cable distances etc!!) I'm sure it'll all be fine ..... if all else fails, I'll get it on Thursday after work, throw the door cards etc in it along with the solar stuff and my duvet, and we can sort it out in the field!
