  1. Hi all.
Just wondered if anyone had experienced (or heard of) any negatives regarding a properly done scooby conversion..apart from costs..and originality?
    Thanx

  2. Isn’t that enough?

  6. Apart from the cost and originality none in my experience. I suppose if you need to sell it might have an impact on desirability (don't know) and you'll need to change the coolant once every couple of years or so.

    The positives.
I'm more confident its going to get me there - admittedly any engine may break down
    Starts easier
    Better MPG
    A little faster
Dont spend so much time working on it
Drove it much more since it was done.
    Front screen heater works

Could be a problem if you intend to claim an MoT exemption in the future.

Too early to say for sure as the rules of engagement here are not entirely clear yet.

  9. Think from memory that engine change makes very little difference in the mot exemption points system.
Realise that there will be the haters but 140 bhp & 30 mpg with greater reliability and less maintenance make sense to me.

I'm pretty sure it will void any MOT exemption but who cares?
It's £40 a year for someone who knows what they're looking at to check over your bus.
    Win win.

  12. You will spend loads of money on engine and keep old tired gearbox. it will let you down.
Just like lowering, the "fashion" for them will pass.

It's all about what you want ..they are all good ...ANY engine is alright providing it has been looked after .
If you hate tinkering with engines and have no idea how they work and to work on them ...then a scooby is your answer , but you still have the rest to look after .
I just wish there was a diesel that would drop in as easily as a scooby .
One and only concern i have on a scooby and it is not the fact it's in, and not an original air cooled is .....will there be a time when the availability of them will slip away and if you do have engine failure will you be stuck ...can you get pistons and rings liners ...rods .
And after spending a fair bit ..well i suppose you can turn back to the dark side And they are all used motors .

But having said all that i haven't heard of one blow yet .
