  1. Thanks Crossy. Will post some more pics of the progress over the past year. Have so many to sift through.

  2. Hi Merlin, definitely planning on visiting some shows when the opportunity arises. I’m sure I shall make it down to some shows later this year.

Looks like loads and loads of sanding but top effect

  4. TBH the main cabinet still needs carving on the inside. The wood work is some carved birch ply with some extra pieces bonded on, like the Purple Heart, then carved. To thin things down, James carved the inside to thin the wood out and keep the weight even lower. Think it’s a great trade off using ply, keeping weight down and maintaining the strength. But I think the best thing is the organic style.

  6. Carved out with chisels then sanded. The guy who did it loves wood sculpture. He is an absolute star. He’s like Michelangelo working with wood. So artistic. I’ll paste a link to his website if anyone fancies some bespoke carpentry for their bay.

@Peter Moncur what did you decide to do with the Seat covers? Are you going for fabric that matches the paint job?

  10. Excellent bus & thread

    Where in Scotland are you?

  11. I know it will seem like sacrilege to the purists, but I ripped a pair of almost brand new heated, electric seats out of an RX8 at the scrap yard. Black leather and a snip at £60 the pair. Found the wiring scheme online and had them working before I removed them to crack on with the resto. Looking forward to getting them back in now that the cab is almost finished.

  12. Thanks Paul, I’m in Perthshire, so pretty central and with easy access to the highlands when she is back on the road.

  13. Do 13" steels fit over those rear discs?

  14. Sadly 13” steels wouldn’t fit over the rear discs. Otherwise I would have fitted the old steels prior to painting then switch to the 15” SSP Fuchs replicas. As it was it was easy enough to fit the alloys and mask before painting.

  15. Sorry I meant 14" standard VW camper steels

  16. It looks a lot like the red9 rear brake kit to me.
If this is this one then no they don't clear 14'' wheels (according to there website).

Very nice bus by the way!

  17. Thanks, she’s taken three years but we are on the home stretch now.

Yes, you’re spot on, it was the red9 disc conversion kit. https://www.red9design.co.uk/wheeladaptors.htm

LPG Tank. Planning on painting it blue to match the van in the next couple of weeks. We are thinking of tinting Raptor with 10% solvent base coat and using a 1.8 tip to get a smoother finish and hopefully have it stand up to the hammering it will get from road debris. Anyone have any experience of using it?
