Don't flame me! Current bus is a 3.5 Nissan Elgrand! (explains the name). Initially set out looking for a late Transporter but the prices relative to age/mileage were off the scale. We needed something we could use for camping, transporting furniture people etc. Long story short, saw one at a house clearance auction and got talking to the owner. He said he'd not used his X5 since he bought the Elgrand. At the time I'd never even heard of them, started looking and found one not too far away the next day! Wife went to view it as I was at work...get phone call....she'd bought it! Went to pick it up wondering what I'd got myself into! Thankfully all was well...Low mileage, immaculate save for a scratch on one door and all the toys you could wish for!...and the power...it shifts! Someone said they'll pass anything on the road except a petrol station! Anyway, we've always loved the old VW buses and should soon find ourselves in a position to buy one. We do realise the pitfalls and money-pit potential of the old buses but we've never really been sensible as far as cars go! Our only air-cooled experience to date was a GP beach buggy back in the late 70's...what a love/hate relationship that was...only car I'm sure I towed more miles than drove!!
Hi, That is the plan as we won't have the money for a few months anyway. From what I've seen on Ebay etc the only ones selling are the more sensibly priced ones, too many resisted every week having not sold at the higher price points. At the end of the day with the best will in the world these old buses are weekend toys/induldence and not many people these days have that much disposable income.
Surly after being on here for a while you will NEVER want to buy a bay . But If you do ,I bet you haven't read the mech tech and restoration sections. Joking aside welcome
unless your mechanically minded and have deep pockets id buy something newer ,like a T5 ........personally price wise ....maybe they will come down ..like house prices
