At the moment the dash lights don't work, I have had a look and the light switch connection for the dash lights only gives a maximum of 6v, I have turned the dimmer and this is the maximum. Is this knackered? @Diddymen your good at this stuff electrics and the like?
If the switch works for every thing else then just connect your dash lights up to one of the side light terminals. It won't dim but who uses the dimmer on anything but max anyway? Incidentally some time back I found my switch was losing about 1.5 volts on the way to the headlights. A new switch definitely helped there.
You could try some contact cleaner, servisol super 10, or similar NOT WD40. May help clean the old contacts up
check you have a good earth at the back of the cluster feed to the dash lights is 58B with the grey/red wire ....what voltage are you getting there? if your head lights are working, could be a problem with the switch, the dimmer mech is basically a coil of wire that can wear away
yes it was 58B that was giving me the 6v ... head lights are working fine so time for either a bodge or new switch.
As above, the wirewound track on the dimmer may wear out. You could just connect the dash lights straight to the sidelight feed.
even pumping out only 6v I would have thought you'd get a very dim glow from your bulbs, are you getting 6v at you bulb holders? ....and are you measuring from a good earth ...it does sound like the switch is the problem, get another, they are cheap enough in the scheme of things
