I received my period correct large chrome badge in the post today but I don't have any mounting holes in my front panel. The question is, should I drill holes in my front panel and bolt the badge on or would some kind of adhesive like silkaflex be better? Either way I will need to trim the back of the new badge to get it fitting over the panel bulge! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Once you've drilled it you cant go back with out it costing money. There is a product called Pink Grip , Very strong stuff.
I am leaning towards sticking it on but will have to cut off the threaded mounting bolts with the grinder! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Can you even get at the back of the bolts to get nuts on if you drill it? I've only seen plastic clip on one's that you have to push so hard to fit it distorts the front panel. I always stick em on
Good point, I don't know. I had assumed it would be easy to get to them from behind the dash! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Take your kick panels off and work out where the holes would be, see if you think you could get at them!
There's my answer then if I can't even get to the back! Time to get the grinder out and buy some strong adhesive! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yup got the bulge. It's a large badge (prototype bay size) and yes it's metal and pressed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you've got a 7" badge, the "VW" doesn't line up with the VW on the front panel. I had to cut a circle of plastic card to go behing my badge.
That's why I though about trimming the back of the badge so it fits over the bulge. Do you have any pics of yours? Edit - my front panel doesn't have any holes in it as the old badge was stuck on with silicone Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here you go. I cut a circle of plastic (old paint container), sprayed it body colour, then Sikaflexed it to the back of the badge. Then Sikaflexed the whole thing over the embossed VW badge. Avoids the "VW" mismatch thing.
The early badge is much bigger than a late one, you may not be able to fit it if you have the bulged front panel
Ah, mines an early 10 inch badge so I might have to be even more creative! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Odd question. Earlies dont have a bulge and neither do most lates. If a new front panel has been fitted with the raised plinth then the ciorrect badge to fit it would be a 7 inch one. These fit absolutely fine utilisng the appropriate clips. What is the badge made from. You mentioned a grinder. What you grinding off. Any chance of a pic of bus and badge?
