i have been slack as waiting for the gearbox mount to be done, but i have it now and have been working on it today, i'll put some pics up later. should hopefully have the engine mount welded in tomorrow and then i can fit the box and engine and finish the plumbing and all should be good.....
Got the gearbox mount done and Been working on fitting the engine brace/mount. It's an rjes one but because it is not really designed to go with a Subaru gearbox I am having to mess around with it.
This has happened this morning, just tacked in for now, needs more weld and strengthening putting in. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
The gearbox is done. Also re-sealed the plastic plate behind the flywheel as I think it was leaking. Did the sump while I was at it. And my mate nigel got annoyed that I hadn't cleaned the outside of Poptopkitchen so he talked me into cleaning it, oh no wait he cleaned it!!! Winner!! Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Now thats the money shot!! Was the RJES mount worth the effort or are there any other alternatives? Personally would prefer bolt in engine mount on my EarlyBay opposed to weld in - but the Fellows one mounts the engine on little rubber bobbins rather than proper pad mounts
Great work ....both of you.. It makes me wonder .. what people who have no interest in cars think about all day.. I had a neighbour pop round last nite , helped me move car parts ,set up my welder, bought round a bottle of Guinness lager. Which we supped while talkin plums about cars, while standing in the drissle at 10 pm... I bet there Was some sh!te on telly we could have watched.. Ps..my brother was in his garage restoring his 260 Datsun, until 11 pm
No problem as far as I can make out - guess im just a little more comfortable with the larger rubber pad mounts opposed to the smaller bobbin type. Is the fellows mount a simple bolt in affair that uses the standard earlybay mounting points?
As far as I know it still needs holes to be drilled to bolt in the fellows mount. @CandyCamper how did yours mount? Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
The Fellows one requires mounting holes drilling through the rear chassis rails. My engine seems pretty secure, although the same can't be said for the gearbox, the torque reaction seems to have exposed worn rear gearbox mounts - so those are now on the list.
What pipes did you use from the radiator to the engine, rjes doesn't recommed the stainless steel ones
So my self imposed deadline of the 1st July isn't going to happen. The Vintage Carnival is a one day event so will have to just live with us as puck only and t5. Next deadline is 2 weeks away which is dubdayz and a full Weekender so if it isn't done we are in a tent!!! This is how it currently is: Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
