This picture is slightly grounding for a VW person like myself, but it was good of my mate to go fetch it for me.

The paint from auto paints was a near match Thanks @snotty and @3901mick I did a quick tidy up of the arches and it will do for now, until I have the exhaust and have given the engine and box a good thrashing err, hmm test out I don't want to spend too much on her.

A clue to the reason for the high mileage.

Now I am going to start asking questions about central locking and why the tailgate is making a continual locking and unlocking noise. It's factory C/L and I have a feeling it's a common problem.

  5. gte in and give the switch a damn good cleaning with alcohol and wd-40, it will probably just be sticky, also make sure the tailgate is shutting all the way. also check that the wiring hasnt been snagged anywhere

Checked the wiring on the hatch both boots off. Will get the panel off tomorrow.

  7. check the part on the body too, that can be full of crap and not let the boot shut properly

Day five of the exhaust delivery saga. It is still in Germany. :(

I have managed a partial fix by simply reading the owners manual. If you withdraw the key from the tailgate when it is vertical it disables the tailgate from the central locking. If you withdrew it at the horizontal it enables the tailgate to the C locking. To open the tailgate when it is disabled from the c locking - insert key turn to 2 oclock position and pull handle.

    CL working okay now

  10. Theres an early 91 or 92 t4 caravelle sat in a yard near me that i pass every day. Its LHD and on estonian plates though. The owner left it a couple of years back when he went back home again. Shame to see it go to waste. :(

Exhaust on and the whole day spent cleaning inside. Took her for a run and she seems absolutely right. Brakes good, engine seems sweet, clutch judder gone. Need to sort the rear wiper now

I have never cleaned the inside of the exhaust let alone spending a whole day doing it
    Does it make a difference?
