They all seem to do that ..its patina... What's the worse that can happen.. I think there is steel inside..
if it the earlier hard plastic type, you can repair it. I repaired mine, grind out the cracks with a dremmel then fill with an epoxy resin, sand smooth and repaint lots of pics on my resto thread
I got to page 80 and saw your cracks (so to speak) but didn't see them near the steering wheel; I've got n Aldi Dremel and Araldite so that's a good winter job. Thanks. BTW that's some restoration on your van, very impressive !
If you think Ten Second Araldite is any good... Try finding proper epoxy filler which sticks well and does not flex like all the fast setting Araldite glues. I used some yottie epoxy and some microfibre filler powder the other day on the wheel after filing the cracks back to the metal.. but then I have it lying aroind.
Yes .. that sort of thing. But that is a lot for what you need. .. But then again you can get it in tubes for £14 and tins like that with about 4 times as much for £18-20 ish...
mine is similar with a few cracks, I don't mind as its sort of part of the classic feel of our old vans. My MGB has a brand new repro wheel which looks fine with the near concours car. I think you should leave your wheel alone, its not dangerous and spend your money on something more useful.
Mines like that too. I am going to dremmel the cracks then use milliputs epoxy putty. Sand, prime, paint. Should be good as new (if I don't cock it up of course)
Milliputs is really good stuff (used it for white cracks in belfast sink) - I used araldite mixed with a teeny amount of black paint on our cracked wheel.... takes a bit longer to go off but tidies it up OK.
Had this delivered today. Will be ready to start my wheel recon at some point. http://s100.photobucket.com/user/Huskymow/media/IMG_1464_zps9xjysgee.jpg.html][/URL]
