The blinged one looks A bit plasticky And wouldn't last as long and would go down As soon as you took it out the showroom
Haha! It was a special last run of the T4 van I think mostly 2003. It had a long nose like the Caravelle with cruise control, leccy Windows, single captain seats, heated mirrors etc etc. 88hp 2.5 5 cyl. Lovely torquey engine and really solidly built van. Easily the best of the four T4's I had. We mildly lowered it on KW springs over RS6 alloys and stuck a SS twin exhaust on it. Looked lovely in black. Really subtle with absolutely no stupid shiny bling on it. The missus cried when it was replaced by our T5.1. Should have held on to it really...
It is a well known fact the the later T4's with the TDI in em were better built and had a stronger engine than the t5's, loads floating about on the forums with over 300k on them
We bought ours with about 30k on it and sold it at about 120k. Used every day for work and weekends for camping. Apart from normal servicing, timing belts, water pump etc we had only one breakdown when a tiny wire in the fuel relay loom broke, which I think is a common fault. I put new injectors in just before I sold it because it needed them and cleaned the egr valve. So really really reliable.
True about engines, if I'd have researched more I might have got a 2.5 5cyl over my 2.0 4, thanks to Europe and the emissions I guess! They reckon these later ones are a bit gutless
I didn't realise it had heated mirrors! I've tried cruise control once and didn't like it. I only knew I had it as pkrboo spotted it one techenders! Mine is India blue? I'd quite like colour coded bumpers to make it look nicer. I've got a reimo camper conversion. We've had 2 T4 westies with 2.5 tdi engines in. We went back and forth to southern Spain regularly. One of them had projekt zoo headlights and bumpers that I rather liked
Yeah, when the T5 turned up I thought it was a bit gutless seeing as the old T4 was 88hp and the T5 140hp. Didn't seem a great difference between them and just put it down to one being a 5cyl and the other a 4 pot. I recently had the T5 remapped and it has come alive! It's apparently got near to 190hp, drives much much smoother, is more responsive and even the mpg is better as long as you don't nail it all the time!
The cruise is nice on the motorway and gives your foot a rest..you can even tie the tiller to the gearshift and go put the kettle on when a nice straight stretch of road is ahead...
