Morning all, Myself and my Wife have just joined this forum and are toying with the idea of buying a camper when we return from our honeymoon this September. We are thinking it will serve as a great accompaniment to a future young family and also serve as a good investment for the future. Currently we are on the hunt for a good condition solid Bay RHD with a pop TOP of any kind be it Viking Devon westy etc I didn't realise how expensive they have got ! We have saved 10k and at a push can go to 12k is that a realistic Budget ? As everywhere I look we seem to be just shy of the mark for one in good condition Thanks in advance for a warm welcome! Sam and Sophie
Hello & Welcome from The Colonial Contingent Someone will be able to give you a sensible answer ( he says hopefully )
There's only 1 @Baysearcher! I wouldn't look at one as a realistic investment for the future. Depending what you spend on it through its life, you'll do well to make anything. Look at it as more of a great toy and you'll love it!
I wouldn't dismiss LHD and an import - chances are that you will get much less trouble for your money. I think it must be brilliant for kids to grow up with these sorts of holidays so go for it, but don't think of it as an investment, as @Baysearcher says. Good luck, and if folk on here can help they will
Hi from Essex good luck! Don't expect them to make money it will cost you a little tho. I have a Lhd and they are as good as the rhd Makes much more fun overtaking!
Definitely look at the westie imports as others have said - IMO its the best setup for small kids - I have 4 YO twins who sleep on the upper bed - very safe compared to other conversions. Mine is LHD - I don't see this being an issue as you have no chance of overtaking anything. Good luck with the search.
Lovely straight RHD bus here with the better 2l flat 4 engine. I'd make an offer. http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/76-devon-rhd-camper.65052/#post-1194578
Good look with the search Buy the best you can afford, save more money if you can't afford what you want yet. If you buy one that isn't quite right, it may end up costing you loads more in the future. That one linked to above does look very good value to me http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/76-devon-rhd-camper.65052/#post-1194578 Ditch some towels and stuff from the wedding gift list and ask for some extra cash towards a better van!
Take someone along who knows if you go to view - theres likely to be someone on here local to you who will be willing to help for beer/pies/cash!
and be prepared to get your hands dirty - even if you dont know much about motors at the moment, you'll need to find out how they work or it will cost you a lot to keep it going without just some basic skills. We are all (mostly all) here to help!
Hello and welcome from the New Forest. Good luck with your search, you could do worse than keep checking the For Sales on here, .....not necessarily because all the regulars are selling up, but more because the thread comments (mostly!) will give you an idea on things to look out for. And obviously because buses like @Flakey's ^^^ linked above do come up occasionally.
This looks good for the money, even if the indicators are in the wrong place: http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=1464034
