Type 4 2056 cc EFI Engine Build

  1. The insides are very different ...mostly the heat exchangers are the bottleneck ....you'd need a dyno and try the different exhaust setups ....lots happen in an exhaust far to complicated for my brain

  2. So maybe strapping a fancy back box onto stock heat exchangers is a bit pointless? I want to keep the heating as well as a sensible noise level, so we'll try with the stock box first.

My thought exactly. The exhaust is very quiet, my carbs growl if I put my foot down but I can't hear the exhsust at all.

  4. Yes, the noisy exhaust was a PITA. I reckon if you can get such good torque from a stock setup, it's worth a go. Hopefully the milder cam will calm down the induction roar as well.

It doesn't roar, it growls reassuringly. :)

  6. Growl is OK, roar gets wearing after a few hours!

Only when I put my foot down, cruising is quiet.

  8. I always found with mine, that if you're driving conservatively (60/65) then you were only ever on around 1/4 throttle

Unfortunately I'm pulling the motor out again, as even though I checked it before I installed it, the fuel tank has a crack in one of the welds, where I welded one of the new fuel fittings to the tank :(

Something like this is what I'm thinking of building to quieten down my induction roar.

  11. Looks like a convoluted path for the air to be sucked through. I've seen similar with forced induction, but I would have thought a few ponies would go missing with that arrangement.

  12. Might be right about missing a few ponies but they would only be missed right at the top of the rev range.
Then again CSP sell the super dooper nice looking one...bit expensive though.

I travel all the time with a thick double duvet and blanket folded back from the bed over the engine. When I took it and the rear foam out to fit some boxes in the back it was very loud. With the bedding it's very quiet. ;)

  14. Im going to fit sound proofing on mine next week..

  15. Yes, mine was much better loaded up for camping. I'm hoping the less aggressive cam will quieten down the valve noise as well.

  16. Havent kept up with this but have done now. Motor looks like a thing of dreams to me. Cant wait to find out how this drives.

  17. It currently is dreams as it's not finished yet!

  18. After a few hiccups, and now a Wosp high torque starter motor fitted, we have life!! :chewie:
