What spares to carry now I have a Scooby?

Discussion in 'Alternative engine in bus' started by Sick Boy, Apr 18, 2016.

  1. When I had my 1600 Type 1 I carried all the usual spares like fan belt, accelerator/clutch cables, dizzy cap, spark plugs etc but now that I have a Scooby I wonder what to carry. Apart from changing the oil there is not much I can do or need to do on the engine. So what do people do by way of routine maintenance and what spares do you carry if you run a Scooby?

  11. Carry an AA or RAC card. Probably not much point in carrying any spares for day to day journeys

Some of the same spares as before.
The speedo cable is now critical. Without it the engine won't idle properly as the speed sensor is mounted to it.
    Clutch cable.
    Etc etc

I also carry coolant and oil, just in case, and a spare fanbelt.

  15. Thanks for these replies. @rickyroo1 I will have to ask you what these are at Techenders. I feel I have gone back to Square 1 knowledge-wise. @Baysearcher is the speedo cable the same one or a different one?
@lost-en-france Yes funny enough I do carry spare water but that is normally for the dog
@sANDYbAY good thought but stuff like that eg Timing Light etc etc all went pretty quick after getting the Scooby

A Harry Potter style, Bay sized invisibility cloak for when you come across speed cameras? You can get em on eBay apparently.....

Mine ran fine for a couple of years without the speed sensor...now I've fitted it it seems to have made zero difference!!

I'd go with spare fan belt, clutch and accelerator cables and make sure you give it a good once over if you are going for a few days.

Most seem to only require a standard speedo cable.
