  4. Hi, very nice conversion.
I am hoping to convert mine next year with a 2.0, 2.2 or 2.5 Subaru engine and do most if not all the work myself.
The loom & cooling systems seem the most complicated at present I will have to do some more research. etc.

    Regards, Colin.

  5. I will have to catch up with you some time next year and have a good look and take some photos if that's OK ?

No worries mate, you'd be more than welcome to have a look around it!

  7. Just a quick question do you know if the Subaru manual coolant "radiator" is used between the chassis rails I have found a new one for £20.00

Not sure to be honest mate, fellows did mine and they use their own radiator.

  9. I have been in contact with Richard- RJES who informed me no.

  10. Did Richard say why?

  11. No, but I believe possibly the wrong size or pipe outlets angle(s) for fitting underneath between the chassis rails.
I will let you know when I find out !

@Baysearcher it is crazy how much these conversions cost. Is it really worth it? In my head its an awesome thing, but on paper it seems expensive.

  15. yes if your after speed/Reliability and the smile factor will you overtake something you should never be able to...:D

    If i was young....:hattip:

    Define "worth it"?
I love it and would do it again if I had a second bus.
It's expensive no doubt but then so is a half decent re-built air cooled which may or may not last a long time and won't have half the power.
Once the work is done for the scooby install a replacement engine is a few hundred quid...
You pays your money and takes your chance!

I think I mean money's worth. Basically looked at the fellows pricing and it is well expensive. Like 7500 plus vat. Obviously a DIY build is cheaper and I'm sure we have discussed this before. And I know if you had to replace your engine it would become an option in line with a new build engine. I think it is amazing though don't get me wrong. I would do it tomorrow. But not for that price

£9K? That's a lot of money, the price quoted is usually £5-6K. Has the price gone up?

No idea what it costs now at Fellows but I didn't pay anything like £9k!
You can of course DIY it but I like the fact mine doesn't look out of place. The homebrew ones I've seen don't look so tidy although they probably work just as well.
There are plenty of others doing it now too, that charge less than Fellows. @chrisgooner used someone in North Wales I think?

  20. It would appear it's the going rate. I've just started researching and been taken by surprise by the cost. All around £7.5k-£10k. Wish it was less. Had it been around the £5-7.5k range it would be easier to swallow. Although still a lot!

If you find somewhere cheaper I'd be interested!
