Had a few hours today but not much done as went out last night and was feeling rough !! So popped out got some wood made a couple of frames to have a rolling chassis to play with !! Un seized rear wheels !! Lifted buddy off into frames and had a good clear up ect of the workshop/drive !! May have some spare time to start to strip and clean the chassis tomoz !!
Nah I meant jsust get a whole new chassis as a direct replacement. Transmission tunnel the lot and just bolt the beam onto it. Sure I saw it on beetle crisis.
If you buy a brand new chassis then you can transfer the chassis number over. But I appreciate the way you want to do it
Kind of cheap as poss lol as it needs so much work gonna repair what I can and try making a lot or stuff or will be the most ecspensive beetle in history
Holy mackerel , batfink. Do you weld? Does the body just bolt to chassis? Is the body light, diud you lift it off yourself?
Can weld just not great but after this will be good !! My pal lifted it with me but u can lift it urself there about x20 bolts I'd say and off it pops
Great photos. I agree with your point about keeping costs down. As this is a major project, have you worked out a plan and a budget. The costs will be important. I can see you are going to enjoy the resto and the fun of searching out used panels, parts and so on. As said, you could buy new but as we all know, new usually means chinese and expensive. My old mgb was in a similar state as your beetle, or not quite so bad. But it was restored using mostly used genuine parts and a few new panels. Many of the original parts were refurbed. The engine, gearbox, overdrive unit and diff were all rebuilt. Look forward to seeing your progress.
