Blower wire and stuff

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by 14platoon, Nov 11, 2015.

  1. my blower used to work but now doesn't! Not tried it for a year but looks like a wire should b plugged in somewhere, possibly mechanic disconnected it. Any ideas if this is the problem and where should it plug in?
Ps I think my big tube thingy under the bus needs changing, it feels corroded. This is the long pipe which runs the length between heat exchangers and heat inlets. Where can I get one?
    Thanks

Looks like it could be earth but just undo two nuts on the bracket to roof and drop the whole thing down, should be obvious where it's come from, it's either popped out of the connector block on the relay or there'll be an earth male spade to put it on.

Saw a heater tube on one the other day that had been replaced with some black 4 inch drain pipe!

maybe the earth to the relay best get in there and have a look

Not sure yet, he's not had the bus long,I think it'll need well insulating or get full of condensation more than usual.

  9. DO NOT USE DRAINPIPE.

Hmm he's been lucky so far maybe because the cables are chopped and the flaps are shut so it's not really had hot air through it!
I'll investigate it properly next week.

  12. I've just seen steel pipes for sale at VW HERITAGE and JUST KAMPERS
Anyone used these, how do they connect?

  13. I used some stainless pipe from the mill and some silicone joiners from eBay, much better fitment and I fitted a secondary blower too.

  14. Should have used cast iron drainpipe...that wouldn't have melted...........

  15. Nice...don't suppose you've got a picture of the joiners and details of the pipe you used? Cheers

  16. This. Apart from the thing melting, I wouldn't want to breath hot air that's been through a PVC pipe.

This is the back view with the loose wire on the right. I can't see where this would go? This blower used to work fine but now nothing, I can't even hear a click from the relay. Any ideas, anyone take a look at theirs for me please.

  18. I think the relay is supposed to face the other way, then that female spade terminal will fit inside the yellow multi-plug. I suspect there's a disconnected terminal...

Edit: Either that, or follow the other br0wn/black stripey wire (which is yellow/black in the wiring diagram) from the yellow plug and see if there's a loose end.

Compare with wiring diagram here. V4 is the blower fan:

  19. The yellow black from the relay goes into the junction with the brown white one which is shown on top of the air filter box at the front.

  20. Ah - I see. I think that's wrong. I think the two yellow/black wires (which look brown/black in your photo) should be joined together - and the brown/white one should go direct to terminal 31 on the relay.

Unplug the relay (the terminals should be labelled) and compare with the link above.
