I wonder why I worry, when I squatted in London we nicked the elc by poking a 10mm thick bundle of copper wire into the main fuse fitting with a stick. We then all had a 2 bar elec fire and the oven and all 4 hot plates were on full from when we moved in. We turned 'em down to cook if we weren't cooking on an upturned 2 bar fire. Our main fuse glowed bright green and lit the hallway at night.
haha Health & Safety was only invented in 1974, so I guess if your bus is older than that it don't matter what you do!
Which. The ones in the sockets are connected as per normal then theres a common earth terminal in the enclosure which connects the supply flex from the inlet to the outgoing flex earth wire and a bonding cable to the chassis, i either used 4 or 6 mm cant recall.
neat. it doesn't need to be complicated! I guess if it tripped, you'd just need to switch something off.
For the enclosure i used one of these i think http://www.meteorelectrical.com/2mo...untry_id=222&gclid=CIjKp4GjwMgCFUccGwodOtAMrg Much cheapness. I used a din rail mounted earth terminal to connect the earth cables to.
Could a moron such as myself manage this? TBH I could cope with a slightly bigger enclose, yours looks like there's barely room to cram the wiring in?
Thats the beauty of sockets. You Can unplug everything.. A neutral earth fault fault on a hard wire zig unit on a 6amp mcb where the loads are split anf the sockets are seperate and your average punter is up merd alley as they wont find it and the Rcd wont reset. Why fill your cupboards up with electrical shizzle or risk not being protected. Where zed is talking about putting is inlet is right above where ive got me breaker. You can have the ctek in the bus rather than the engine bay feeding into the leisure circuit. Provided all your 12 volt wiring is big enough to keep the volt drop down then the ctek could go amywhere. All cables are flexes, or should be. Easy peasy as uncle dave would say....cheap as....
Sounds good. I got the 7 as it was cheap off your builder matey chap who flogged his bus.... I think i would have gone for 10 as well tbh
You mean below, but in fact I've ended up with a space between RR bed and cupboards that this would fit in. Ken Regency?
its not permanent to be honest. Didnt want to attack the bed front with a hole for a plasterboard box and then change my mind. A nice flush one will be fitted at some point.
I don't have a box big enough for a bus. I can manage I expect, when it comes to it I can post pics on here and be told why I would fry if I were to plug it in.
no you muppet. I can prewire it for you, the enclosure and rcbo. Its not difficult but would be fiddley in situ.
Btw. Dont ask to see my 12 volt set up as it looks like a frankenstein experiment. Indeed someone within earshot described it as steampunk. I like that!
You wouldn't know it, but I used to design lightning protection and earthing systems for equipment mounted on steel platforms under high voltage pylons. You had to be able to get on and off the insulator mounted platforms without being killed if lightning were to strike while you had a foot on the ground and a hand on the equipment platform. This included having to prevent the lightning getting at our independent power supply. Every pylon has different characteristics depending on the ground conditions. A bit like History at school, I'm grateful to have forgotten the details of all this now and thankful that you guys are still switched on.
