The Landmark
« on: Thu 29/07/10, 08:19 »
Ive posted some photos in the "Introduce Yourself" category, but I have been adding more photos to a web page I have built telling the story of my 1978 Landmark Camper that I recently found and figured I would post the link in this forum as well. :yes

I have located an original road test article in a US based magazine and have posted images and have a bunch of photos of the beast as-found and the start of the revival and restoration.

Take a peek and let me know what you think!!

I loved the pics in your intro thread but the new website is excellent, really good pics and a nice layout! Interesting magazine article, think we can answer their headline question though...  :)

Have bookmarked it and will definately be following the work!  :yes

The magazine article was a great find and a very interesting read. Its a bit sad to go through it as they really give it a poor review. I think much of this was due to a strong bias towards the American brands, but as an owner and lifetime fan of VWs, it got me almost a bit upset! Dont call my baby ugly!! Dont you guys realize how cool this is???

The automotive world is full of stories like this though...dream cars that never hit it big, but as time goes by they come back into view and the rarity factor makes them hot properties years later. In the early 70's the big winged Hemi powered Plymouth Superbirds were laughed at...now that is the coolest muscle car ever!

Probably folly to compare the two...totally different worlds, but Im real excited about it and am looking forward to bringing it out into the world for people to see and spread the word about the model. It is a pretty obscure one...and I have always liked the weird stuff best! I have a lead on what I think may be the original company that made them...they are supposedly now in Northern California and I am preparing to try to contact them and ask them if they have any knowledge of the history. I really want to know how many they made!

Well my lead on the company that made them went nowhere...looks like they are gone and out of business. Im not giving up hope that I can find someone that knows how many were built. I have a found a few owners of the Landmark US brand vans, but that is about it.

Still searching though!

I have located a set of the proper wheels for it that I am going to pick up shortly...I have started to polish the body a bit and the original white paint is going to shine up very well...the stripes are a bit cooked though.

I will post with updates as they come up!

Dont pull the old vinyl off the van!

Take the van to a well known and reccomended vinyl cutters and the will be able to make you an exact replica :yes

Then send the van to me because i need some pimping style in my otherwise practicool life lol

I love the landmark conversion :yes

The stripes are not vinyl...they are actually paint !

I suppose I could have them re-done in vinyl though and just put it over the top of the stripes...might be an easy way to go!

If I can get it all running and properly pimped out...I think I will bring it to the UK. I can just imagine it at the Volksworld show, 70's tunes cranking out, maybe some properly dressed models.... mmmmmm :cool
