It might be a funny picture to start with but this (the van not Mrs P) is the reason I have the van I have today.

I got in to vans via motorbikes, I had bikes for years and ended up with a beetle for the winter in the early 80's one thing led to another and I bought the above van, it had hardly any miles on it and was mint and original. I loved that van with a passion, when we had kid's I could not bear to see them picking at the Formica and pushing pencils into the seats. I did the unthinkable and decided to sell it and build a kid proof van that would sleep four!

I dont have many pictures of the build as I turned it around on the drive in three months during the winter ready for summer. I kept it the original flipper blue but had it sprayed all the one colour, the deluxe trim was damaged so I had to remove it.

Had a late Westy roof fitted for the room up top to sleep 4 if needed!

Dropped it one spline rear and dropped it level at the front on the beam (wished I had used drop spindles now though!) and shod it with Fuch's

Fitted stainless bumpers and stainless bluebird exhaust!

I kept the engine original, just replaced the carbs with webber 34's after the original Solex's caused over-fuelling and burned a valve on 3 while in Spain, limped home and re-built the engine. I had bought the van as an 1800 but when I put on the new barrels and pistons the pistons stuck out of the top! I measured the difference and found it to be the same as the difference between the throw of an 1800 and 2L crank. Heritage swapped them for me, and bingo! 2L not 1800!

Interior wise I wanted it kid proof. I bought some beech faced ply from Jewsons and got the router, nail gun and semi-expanding glue out.

Decided on a lay-out along the lines of me old Devon, 3/4 bed and a straight run of units with overhead rear cupboard.

Shoe-horned a cooker,sink and fridge meant for a T25

I fitted a 9gal water tank underslung from CAK tanks, the electric connects in the engine compartment on the spare wheel bay, the breaker, split charger, mains charger and aux fuse box are all contained in it.

To make the extra room I cut out the passenger bulkhead and revolved the seat

Seats from a mini metro fold foreword so you can have a small Buddy table behind the drivers seat

I great question for the featured ride section - where did you get the stays for the sink and cooker flaps?

Having had a good luck at this bus and a sit inside
I can say pye has done very well with it all
The interior is very functional aswell as pleasing on the eye

I may have to employ pyes skills when it comes to making my interior

Great work dude and a cracking bus :yes

Nice van. I'm thinking of converting the passenger seat too - what mech did you use for the turntable?

I wonder if the T25 seats would do the job, height ect?

Tis a luvly Bus you have built there and loving your interior.
Looks better without the Deluxe trim imo. Why did they move it down on the lates anyway? Looks better on the waistline i reckon.
Any plans to whiteband the tyres? Would look :cool
