this is how it looked when i got it 3.5 years ago. it looked ok and i loved the idea of a secret camper, when you are so rock n roll its nice to get away from the begin crowds hahahha.

right before i go on, a little about me... hewy
im a tattooist which ive been doing it for 10 years. airbrush artist for 20 years.
i paint/airbrush sportbikes and helmets not campers or any thing of that size.
ive done repaires on cars before and motorbikes ive rebuilt. so im not amiss in doing things myself.
this is my first vw but my familys had a few beetles and my dads still got a oval window/factory sunroof beetle thing hanging up for the last 22 years lol.
i live in norfolk and work in norwich at a studio called INDIGO.
the van was bought for a wim, that i thought i would like to have a panel van, that i could tattoo from when im out and about, well the bank bought it and i got the van though my business lol.
i wont be tattooing from it has i work anough as it is.... my van, my own little world, all in one.

right now heres the good part once the outside was sprayed blue, and flated down.
then to get the camo pattern i used stencels out of acetate, i cut about 6 stencils out using skulls and crossed surf boards. then getting 2 vw blues and each blue i then made a lighter version.
so how i sprayed the skulls, is mask a area off, spray blue 1 though the stencils untill i ran out of colour then put in the lighter colour in the airbrush spray that until that runs out, repeat till area is covered in skulls. this was done all over the bus as a base coat pattern.

then clear coated in 2k to seal in the pattern. right next came the graphix....

as you can see in the pics the spraying was done in a dirt floor barn, which was good because once the floor was wet it would stay wet, so no dust would come off the floor. the roof was then sealed with a large tarp to stop water coming though the roof.
right the first thing i done was the doors.

how the graphix was put together. first i got a iron cross off the net, then got a skull and also the airbrush, plus take pics of my tattoo machine. once in a art programme i mucked about and got the image to be like a banksy stencil. so its black and white no tones. once printed out i made a stencil in a4 then enlarged it, so it would fit into the door maxium size. made a big stencil as in photo 1, once traced on to masking film each bit was cut out by hand, this is how most airbrush work is done.
i sprayed the black and the basic fade on the iron cross so the skull would stand out, detail was added with drawing pens and paint brush. it was then clear coated twice and flatted down so you couldnt feel the skull/cross graphix. then back to the computer to sort out the writing and how it went round the cross/skull, then print out and make a stencil, enlarge and then redraw on masking film on top off the cross/skull. cut out the letters, spray gold size, remove the film when the size is tacky and then lay the gold leaf on top, it sticks down to the size and you rub the rest off with a smooth brush. whats left is the writing i gold leaf.
reclear coat twice, flat down so you cant feel the gold leaf and pinstripe round each letter in red, clear coat again and flat down till you cant feel the pinstriping.
then turn round and do it again on the drivers door.....!!!!!

This is one of my favourite buses; followed the original thread on vzi. obviously barking mad, which is not a bad thing!  loved the squashed fairies, btw, my missus wants to have one tattoo'ed on her butt.

That bus is amazing!  I very, very rarely say WANT!! but that falls in that category  :cool

I also only knew of one Norfolk person that can do that intricacy and standard of paintwork before I saw this bus, - and that was Ty Lawer of Wymondham.....

I am in awe   :clap

ok i should have done more but i havent had the time im so busy with my birthday and other stuff may has been loaded with lots of ups and downs, and ended on a low with a great friend passing on.
but i will get and do the next part when i find the time.
when i was on a little break down in brighton and the starter went bye byes, used the internet on the phone and got a company called http://www.wolfsburgwizards.co.uk/ gave him a call and sorted the problem out with no hassles.... so throw him some work if you need any thing done on any aircooled vw in the brighton area good bloke......
