I thought I'd share some photos of my 1974 Devon Eurovette not because it's got fancy wheels, a fantastic restoration or a powerful engine, but just because it's totally original, un-restored & just very well looked after (and the Eurovette conversion doesn’t seem to pop up so often). I bought it a year ago from the original owner & other than a few minor teething problems (choke stuck on, fuel pump falling to bits to name a few) I've just been using it as I got it for trips to the seaside, making a cuppa & a toasted teacake on the seafront, I’ve still to take it to a show but I’m sure I’ll remedy that soon.
The original owner had the great forethought to have his new camper ziebart sealed from new & it's obviously protected his investment well all these years, the panels & underside are still superb German steel.
As far as I know the conversion is complete as it was meant to be when it rolled out of the Devon workshop, I'd quite like to know if the curtains are the original fabric but I don't see why they shouldn't be.
When I put the poptop up, the canvas looks like new apart from pin prick holes on some of the bellow joints & the fabric on the two top bunks looks unused.
A couple of the cushions have some rips, but I've sourced some used matching fabric & would like to find somewhere to get them re-trimmed back to original & the white plastic coating on the bed frame & buddy seat could do with renovating at some point.
The last photos shows some of the history the van came with… original sales invoice (the price new was not cheap!), ziebart invoice, ziebart inspection reports, early service reports, letters from VW when the engine failed in 1979 (no goodwill given) and a service book stamped until 1993 (thereafter service history is on invoices)
I hope the detail helps any other Eurovette owners identify what should go where on their VWs & if anyone spots some detail mine is missing I’d like to know because I’m keen to keep it as original & period as I can.
(I've noticed that the photo's don't come out so large, I think if you right click the photo for it's properties, you can copy the photo URL & open a larger photo)
