I would do it in 2 bits. firstly get an original card for the lower awkward bit and cover it then get some fibre board cut to size and covered for the upper bit.

I'd fit a Westfalia style cupboard on the corners. Extra storage space come in handy.

That's nearly a year's advance notice, you can't possibly be doing anything else

Chances are more often than not the next post after this one will be from Nixy

Scotty,
When presented with this same problem, and being the cheapskate I am, I came up with a very low cost solution. I got some cardboard boxes and by cutting out triancles and using masking tape I made a very close fitting pattern of the offending area. Once this was done I used PVA and newspaper to papier-mache over this flimsy pattern on both sides. Depending upon the number of coats you put on, this can result in a rock hard finish. Then I covered the resulting piece with matching fabric and bob's your uncle.
Cheap as chips

Here are some pictures of the finished panel. If I did it again I would use smaller bits to follow the profile closer.

Cheers

Go for it Scotty. What have you got to lose? Some time and a bit of pva! If it comes out rubbish, bin it and tray again. Sure it won't though.
Good luck
