Vans going missing in Bristol
« on: Wed 10/03/10, 13:18 »
Just saw this post on another forum - thought you might be interested.

Saturday morning at about 11 am I looked out of my window to find my van being loaded on to a tow truck. On running screaming out of the house, I was told that the "owner" had met the truck driver and handed him a set of keys which opened the drivers door (old locks!) and told him it was an MOT faliure and to take it for scrap.
The truck driver paid him £100, broke the steering lock off (failed to query the duvet, portaloo and other camping paraphernalia) and set about loading it on to his truck.
If I had been out, or not curious about the noise in the street, I would have lost my van.
The truck driver also had a red Mercedes van next on his list from the same guy, but that van had already disappeared by the time the police got there.
Don't let those vans out of your sight...and make sure you have new door locks!divingbelle

This was months ago and it was in the evening post at the time. Turned out to be a scrapyard in Fishponds.
Even after the story in the paper there was something that didnt ring true about the whole thing.....

^^ I wouldnt say useless, keeping as many eyes peeled could make all the difference. The more people who are aware of suspicious activity near of Buses the better!

Nothing useless about it mate!
At the time it made everyone in Bristol panic about their buses but there was just something about it that didnt add up.

Have a read for yourself:

Just thought it wierd that people were going on making statements such as "A few more have gone missing from Bristol" but then never bothered giving details ect...... Seemed like a bit of scare mongering going on to me.

This is just my opinion.....

I fully understand that vans do regularly go missing.....

Looks like people were jumping on the bandwagon.
Although imagine if you did see someone taking your van, I'd go crazy.  :s

Will have to have a think about how to make my camper more secure when out and about as well as at home.....
If i caught anyone loading my bus on a low loader,, they would be dead...even if it was not them, because as far as i see they are an accesary, to theft...because they have been paid to commit a crime.

i agree HF, a lot of people i speak to about the van are not aware of the money tied up in them, so the people stealing the vans must know what they are looking for.

I will never fully understand what possess people to be so inconsiderate and selfish that they need to mess peoples lives up by stealing, i just dont get it

Well I am glad I have a garage and my Camper is almost always blocked in by 2 or more cars, they will have a bloody hard time getting to it.

I would be gutted if I had my Camper stolen, not just because I have lost it forever, but because it has served as a benefit to the lowest bits of scum on the planet.

Any pikeys in Bristol come after my van, they would be bloody sorry.

About two months ago my mates neighbour in Belvedere SE London, had to stop a dodgy dude lifting my mates Talbot campervan, I mean it's a little bit tatty but taxed n stuff, the bloke said.... " I thought it was dumped ",
I guess apart from gits stealing pricey VW's the scrappys are trying to get the most scrap metal in a single load, what with the ever increasing price of scrap.... think its £100.00 a ton for scrap down our local metal yard.

Makes you think. :yell
