Hey Guys,
I'm Paddy from Manchester. I'm 19 and when my dad pointed out vw campers on a trip to Cornwall last year, I fell in love. He's been into them since he was young, and that's now been passed onto me.
Literally, the second I got home I was online checking them out. It's crazy to think how much I've learnt about them, just by viewing websites and forums.
I've been after a camper since then, and my dad has been for 20 odd years, but few spare funds (started University this year) have meant it's just been a dream.
But earlier this week a late bay (1974) popped up. It's relatively messy, rust in all the usual places and will need plenty of new panels. The price is low enough for it to be worth a punt, if all else fails, it can be sold for parts and will probably make its money back (working engine included).
We're being realistic and know it will be a relatively long project. I've added up that the costs of part (brand new) will cost around £1100 then obviously factor in the cost of welding/professional services. We do have a welder in the family and a friend who imports VW's, so plenty of advice/help in that area.
We're viewing it this saturday (and will probably buy it there and then) but if not, the hunt continues, mainly for a late bay.
So that's me and my VW journey so far, looking forward to chatting with you all soon.
Paddy
