Plywood Headliner
« on: Sat 06/03/10, 21:46 »
I have a 79 Twin Slider Tintop which at the minute has no headliner.

I want to fit a plywood headliner but have no idea what thickness ply to use.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thats my youngest Molly, her labour charges are very reasonable  ;)

Hiya guys, i have an original ply headliner and there is a metal U shaped gutter that runs along both sides of the van where the sides meet the roof. Try and find a photo of a westy continental interior to see what I mean.

When you fit the ply it needs to be inserted into the gutter along one side then pulled down (away from the roof )so that it bends and you can fit the other side into the gutter.

Simples  :) in theory anyway!

It took us about 7 hours to figure out that you need to bend the ply away from the roof to get it to fit into the  gutter... doh. Hope this helps. Ply headliners are proper cool  ::)

Hiya Steve, looking at the photo of your van it doesn't look like you have the gutter I was talking about, but I am sure it will be easy to fabricate. Or you could possibly just fix the ply with screws?
I'm camping in the van this weekend so I will try and remember to take some photos

sorry it's taken so long to load the photo Steve. here is the little gutter I was talking about

Originally it is metal colour but I have painted mine. You would probably be able to salvage it off a scrapper, but i also imagine it would be just as easy to fabricate
Hope this helps, Julie
