Tim at Firetec is a nice fella and will give resonable discounts if you can get enough people interested for a group buy....

nice simple bit of kit to install the tubeing is pressurised and blows at if i remember right about 80 degrees so will go at the ignition point and extinguish pretty rapidly.
All work and no bay makes jack a dull boy.......

I fitted mine myself and it really isn't very hard. It's easier plumbing it in on a 1600 engine because they are smaller engines and they don't have the access hatch unlike the Type 4 engined buses.

There are 2 different sizes and 2 types, flay flat and upright. I opted for the larger lay flat one and fitted it on the petrol tank firewall. Just remove the firewall before you drill into it :) I will re-fit it though when l jazz up the engine bay because l need about an extra 3" to cover the leisure battery.

+1 for the FireTech.

Got mine as part of a group buy from earlybay, seem to remember it was about £100. Very easy to fit. Mine is just inside and to the left of the engine hatch.

Did the same as Baysearcher above, bought one on a groupbuy on the earlybay site as we got a good discount.  It is a firetec 1kg bottle I think as a 500g is not really enough to put out a fire in the engine bay.  Bought a stand up one but you can lie them flat if wanted as I found this easier in the end rather than drilling holes,  held up on the roof of the engine bay tied securely with cable ties.  I also had one with a NC switch which enabled me to wire up a warning light on the dash which will light up if there is a fire giving me an assured notice to get out quick! I also bypassed this with another swith so I could check the warning light now and again.
There are certain other options available, you can have a chafeguard fitted aroung the length of the tube in case of accidental puncturing (but be carefull it doesn't cause a short circuit or another fire by the metal touching things in bay when putting in) and there is a NT switch which allows a light to be pemanantly on in the dash and goes OFF in the event of a fire, this can p***s people off though and end up putting tape over it!
I think VWHeritage do them but no light switches or chafeguards available.  A 1kg would cost about £180 wheras i got mine for £130 ::)

Easy to fit I did my own an I'm a girlie  :flash:

However no one from here decided to join the list, so it was shut....

But if any one is interested please add your name to a list here, and I'll try an organise a group buy...
A standard firetech cost about £115 inc vat.. from the protobay..

you should all buy one as these things are awesome as a first defence, but be very aware that it generally takes us a whole fire appliance worth of water to fully extinguish a small car on fire(1800litres, sometimes 2 or 3) these are great to knock down the fire in its first stages, but you'l need a large (9kg) foam extinguisher to be really safe! just google 9kg foam extinguisher, they're about £30(bargain).

Thanks for the advice Dog. I'll take a look now.

As another idea that went through my mind while reading about a bus fire, the chap said the engine lid lock melted shut. I was thinking about cutting a hole in the engine lid behind the licence plate so l could snap it off quick in a fire. Any views on this idea?? Also aid cooling. Barry doesn't like slow moving city traffic.

And Dog, nice to see you back by the way. I thought, he's been quite but then l thought that perhaps he is making great progress on his bus. Any more details about it to add :)??
