Hi all! Another Late Twin Slider
« on: Tue 23/02/10, 23:53 »
Hi!

This is my Bay:

UK Factory 12(!) Seater Twin Slider Microbus... now with 5 seats/R'n'R bed ;)

... in short: I've owned it for the last seven years in which time I've fitted the simple interior (it was bare tin when I bought it), carpeted and insulated it, made and fitted the headliner and LED lighting, replaced the front bench with individual half-leather seats, upgraded the engine and gearbox, lowered the suspension and fitted 17" alloys, switched the head/tail lights, replaced all the rubber seals and tinted the glass, fitted genuine chrome bumpers and opening quarterlights, designed and applied the hibiscus roof... etc etc

  ::)

Clean bus, and liking the Audi badge. Kind of suits it.

The 12 seat crew bus was a joke l have to agree. Check out the link to the Devon 12 seat bus brochure.

Thanks for the comments and link to the brochure ::)
Interestingly, mine's an earlier late Bay with factory windows rather than converted panelvan, and was most likely a special order as it sat for over 9months between manufacture (Oct 72) and registration (Aug 'M')

I bought the Bay to fill the gap while my bug was off the road for resto... then I kept it! :) A prerequisite was that it was a tin-top with a door on both sides ;) It was the first bus I viewed and it fit the bill having a mint chassis and good bodywork. All the doors and hatches are still original to the bus as the paint layers are the same throughout. It was originally neptune blue but had a basic paint job of blue and white added years ago. The locks all fit the one key except the OE engine lid lock which I added later, and I had NOS blank keys cut to replace the worn originals
It fit the bill perfectly as it was devoid of any mod's (i'm particular about my mods ;) ) or any interior bar a pine 'sauna' headliner.

;)

It's a small normally aspirated Legacy 1.8 lump + 2Ltr gearbox. Good for cruising comfortably at 70mph with sustained (hypothetical :) ) excursions to the outside lane.
It's been in there about 4 years after the original 1600 threw a rod on the way home from being lowered at T2D. It was booked in at TSR for the engine swap.

The exhaust is a one-off stainless steel item with a real sporty low pitched grrrrowl which I had made locally - carries a lifetime guarantee too!

Haha :) Actually you shouldn't feel teased - it's the first time I've posted any real info on any forum about my bus: I felt comfortable enough to share  afro
