When to Service ?

Here's one for you boys (or girls) to answer for me please.

With the van, since our last full engine service at our local vdub garage (Sept 08) we have only done 1200 miles (We have used the van a lot but only on short journeys, lol), so at the end of October last year we sorned it and put it away in our garage but did not have a yearly service.

When do any of you recommend I should next have it done. The engine is running perfect at the mo too and as they say "If it ain't broke.......". A friend of mine in Plymouth said he changes his oil every 3000 miles, well we are nowhere near that total yet plus he services his own dub.

Are we causing the engine any harm by not having it serviced once a year???

Let me know your thoughts cause I value your opinions and will get it out to our specialist garage as soon as we re-tax it in May if you all say I should.

I just thought if it does not need it yet why waste the money, but if I am wrong I need to know.

As a rule of thumb l always service my Peugeots just before l put them away for the winter. Engine oil can become acidic and damage the vital inner parts.


As for the Bus that gets done when 6000 miles has been done.


My everyday Mk2 Golf gets it at 12k.

i would change oil at 3000 miles or every 3 months.

3000miles or 3months, which ever comes first. thats what VW themselves recommended.
oil technology has changed though! (ducks) can of worms! ;)
