Got quite a few little fiddly jobs done this week plus a bit of painting:

Wehave got the rear axle tube painted up and moved along the chassis rails and floor beams while in the meantime we now have new rear brake assemblies fitted (drums, shoes, cylinders, springs), got the brake hoses and steel pipes refitted and clamped in place. Two new handbrake cables fitted and adjusted, two new spring plate covers and seals fitted and just for safety sake (and peace of mind) all the fuel tank breather hose bits replaced.

Got a few loose ends sorted this week, stripped the wiring back to the front to replace some dodgy wires and the conduit it runs in. Prepared the heater tube and y piece for fitting and welding in place and made a start on painting the chassis rails and floor rails ready for fitting the floor fairly soon:

The way we are progressing it could be mid april, we have got the brake line to put in yet & heater tubes. At the mo we aint sure whether to put the gearbox in before we do the floor or do floor first

Mark we didnt do the brake lines fron to rear this week, busy painting and stripping wiring looms and dashboard out  :um:  We did get the heater tube in and the y piece welded back in palce, more going back on!!

One coat of black on the floor beams, one to go:

we also made a start preparing to remove the front beam for new ball joints and track rod ends plus inspection to see how bad it was previously repaired...pics to follow

That is a strange but nice shade of green which probably explains why there was no paint code for it on your M plate.

Yeah we couldnt fathom it either mate, the green is the original colour but outside it was sprayed Jaffa on the bottom half for a while (according to the logbook and evidence found whilst rubbung old paint back) and them sprayed a creamy white by the previous owner!
Chelle has requested her to be sprayed in this colour:

but she wants a cream coloured roof and bumpers. I wanted blue with white roof and anthracite door handles/vw badge!

Owwwww l like Chelle's colour choice. She sounds a good woman. Sort of chrome yellow (L20A) and cream all wrapped together in a toned down Little Miss Sunshine. Nice. Nice. I also noted that it looks like the partition behind the drivers seat was painted chrome yellow.

And that's a nice bug. So nice to see them being appreciated at last like us and our buses.

I think the bulkhead is light from the lamp & flash as its still white at the moment (and black from soot from welding). Cheers for the colour, it'll help us when we get a sample mixed!

L20A was available until 1978. L21A Chrome yellow from 1978 is an awful colour. When you see my bus at Elemental you will see what l mean. I had a paint accident last year when l got the code wrong so most of my top half is painted in L21A. In the paint booth it looked brilliant. Outside it did not. I really do dislike it and this year l am going to have to rectify it with rattle cans.

And strange about that bulkhead picture. It really does look like it was painted yellow. Oops.

Nice one, Chelle will have a good look I'm sure the colour is her choice, mind you judging by the Beetle it'll look sweet!

Well today has been a bit of a downturn as we popped the front beam into the workshop in the lab at work.

On looking at the beam, we knew we had to replace the balljoints and trackrod ends but this we didnt expect:

The beam had been patched poorly as the weld had lifted away from the case itself and looking at the adjusters, they had the slots cut in the wrong location (in three or four places) and left open to the environment.

We got home and did some fettling work on the right hand side of the cab floor as we could see daylight and had a filled hole to check out.
This is what we found  :lurk:

Somewhere along the way the PO lost his hankie

So now we need a new wheelarch section and cab floor step and inner section:

^^ only a little bit of filler  :)   :)
