The lightened flywheel should make a bit of difference I'd have thought. That said, we have a remtec 1641cc ready to go in, I think that has a stock flywheel fitted. Remtec do lighten 1776cc upwards.

Lightened flywheel + splitty + 1935cc = rubbish with hills

Lightened flywheel + latebay + ANYcc = rubbish with hills

its ok if your racing but general use its a pain

if its on an 8 dowel you can get a machine shop to match the dowels on your crank to the new flywheel by using the one that came off for about £30.. I had to do this with an 1835cc motor I put in a latebay van that I got from a microlight plane..  :)

I was wrong!! I'd have thought it would benefit from being lightened to make the engine rev better but does it need a heavier flywheel to provide a bit of torque?

i have been thinking about it but i love that my buss flyes up hills as Hastings is very very hilly so i think i keep it standard what other methords are there to get more power and speed out of a standard 1600 except twin carbs tuned

A good set of twin carbs with 1641 B's & P's and a session on the rollers will see about 88bhp with good rings and heads... that is about as far as you can go witouut splitting the case. you could go bigger but thats an expense that gets bigger the more bhp you want

I think l am to much of a sentimental old fool but I don't know why but that last picture makes me think of Barbra Streisand's "I Stayed to Long at the Fair" I'm playing it now while looking at your picture.

Don't find it and listen to it, it will make you sick  :)

Thanks for the warning Birdy.... been following a few of these resto threads and really impressed by them, being a total novice I've kept quiet for fear of looking a total twit but there's some amazing work going on!

There is something strangely satisfying about looking at pictures of resprayed buses...
